How warm a mat do you need?

R-value measures how well a mat stops the ground pulling heat out of you. Higher is warmer, and R-values add up when you stack two mats. This mat comes in R 3.5, R 4.2 or R 7.5: the table shows which to choose.

R-values are the makers' own figures, and we say on each page who measured them. The industry test is ASTM F3340; not every maker uses it. A mat under a down bag matters as much as the bag: down underneath you is crushed flat, so below freezing the mat does most of the work.

Which R-value do I need?

R 3.5 for spring to autumn, R 4.2 if you'll see frost, and R 7.5 for winter and cold ground. R-values add up, so a foam mat underneath adds its R-value too.

Mummy, wide or rectangular?

Mummy is lightest. Wide mummy (61 cm) suits side sleepers and broad shoulders. Rectangular is longest, for tall sleepers.

How do I blow it up?

Use the pump sack: fill it with air, roll it down into the valve, repeat four or five times. It keeps breath moisture out of the pad.

What does the R-value mean?

It measures how well the mat stops the ground pulling heat out of you. As a rough guide: about 2 for summer, 2 to 4 for three seasons, 4 to 5 for cold nights and frost, and 5 or more on snow. R-values add up, so a foam mat under an inflatable adds its R-value.

Is it noisy?

Some insulated mats rustle when you roll over, because of the reflective layer inside. If it's a concern, the product notes above say what the maker uses inside.

What if it gets a puncture?

Carry the repair patches that come with it. Find the leak by listening, or with soapy water, then clean, dry and patch. Put a groundsheet or footprint under your tent and clear sharp sticks before you pitch.

When will it arrive?

We dispatch in 1–3 business days, then it's 10–20 business days on the way to Australia. There's no warehouse or shopfront in between, which is why it takes longer and costs less. Will my order arrive in one parcel?

Gear from the same maker usually travels together. If your order has gear from more than one maker, it can arrive in two or three parcels, sometimes a few days apart. You'll get an email with a tracking number for every parcel, so you always know what's on the way.

Will I pay duty or GST on delivery?

No. Orders under A$1,000 clear into Australia without additional duty or GST, so there's nothing to pay when your parcel arrives.

What if it isn't right?

You have 30 days from delivery to return it unused and in its packaging. If it's faulty or doesn't match what we published, we pay the return postage and refund in full. See Returns.
